AN UNUSUAL late 18th Century
Dutch, Left handed 13 bore flintlock sporting rifle, two staged
barrel cut with ten shallow grooves, the breech section
octagonal then sixteen sided and struck at the rear with four
marks, one possibly of Amsterdam, engraved tang with integral
sight, plain convex lock with roller and raised pointed tail,
faceted walnut full stock with a velvet covered cheek piece &
the owners initials 'JB' in silver wire behind the barrel tang,
engraved shaped brass mounts, set trigger with finger rest and
with a horn fore-end cap |

stage barrel, two gold lines at the breech, flat lock with
French style cock, rainproof pan and roller on frizzen and
frizzen spring, the plate engraved ' J.Probin, London' Walnut
half stock with chequered wrist, steel mounts including scrolled
trigger guard, horn tipped ramrod. Circa 1810 |
